SHADES

Year / 2013

Prototype

Shades is a fabric whose pattern is completed when exposed to ambient light, showing a fluctuating interplay of real and unreal light and shadow effect.

This fabric is made with an aim to incorporate the environment as a component of its design. Most of mass products are designed universally, so wherever they exist their quality do not change. Kosuke thinks this has been one of the factors of decreasing cultural differences and eliminating consciousness of continuous relationships between nature and our living environment from our mind.

This fabric itself does not change, but its quality varies depending on the quality of light of the place where it exists; it becomes one with its surrounding environment.
