This little bowl is a special edition of the Anima, tableware made from food waste* and Japanese lacquer. By bringing food waste back on the table in the form of tableware, this project aims to provide viewers or users an opportunity to reflect issues around food and also their eating habits. The Anima tableware is made for rethinking our relationship with nature. Each piece is handcrafted by myself and unique. Under a strong light like sunlight its colour appears brighter (except Black).

*Any moldy or rotten materials are not used.

This project has been appreciated and exhibited internationally, and its early works have been selected for the public collections of museums: V&A, MoMA and CID Grand Hornu.

25% of the sales from these limited edition will be donated to organisations which support the people suffering for being suffered by natural disasters or war.

The proceeds from the Noto edition are to be utilised for those who were affected by the earthquake happened in January, 2024.

    • NOT micro-wave-safe, oven-safe, dishwasher-safe.

    •  Do not put boiled water or very hot food. The tranceparency of lacquer will be ruined, turning white and opaque. Once becoming so, it is irreversible.

    • Please handwash it gently with a neutral detergent and soft sponge, and wipe it with a soft cloth.

    • Do not leave it in water. The item will gradually absorb moisture especially from its outside, which may cause a critical damage to its quality.

    • If dropped or hit to something hard, the item will break, so please handle it with care like ceramics or glassware.

    • Urushi (Japanese lacquer) is weak against UV, so when displaying or storing, it is recommended to avoid a place exposed to daylight. Also, highly dried condition is not recommended to enjoy the item as long as possible.

    • As a material nature of Urushi, the colour of the item will become lighter over the course of time. Please enjoy the change. (Except black edition)
